Value.

Where do you get your personal value from?

Your friends? Your family? The car you drive, the job you have, the house you own, the lawn you keep, the clothes you wear, the people you know or the awards you win? Does your value come from your amazing IQ, the college degrees you have on your wall or the number of times your picture is in the paper?

When you fail at keeping up with your friends, spending quality time with your family or at your job, does your value adjust accordingly? Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed by your mistakes?

Not just your value: what about the source of your joy and happiness?

I have been thinking about this alot because I think I place an inordinate amount of importance on my job and what it means to me. So when I make a mistake or fail or something doesn’t work out – I feel that pain much more than I shsould.

But really, my value should come from God. God thought I was so valuable, he died for me. He defeated death for me. Nothing I can do can change that – other than not believing in Him. All of my mistakes, errors, poor judgement, imperfections and sins – none of that can devalue me in the eyes of God because He values me so much that He died for me.

No matter what life dishes me, I know there is always hope because God loves us. He finds value in all of us – if He didn’t, He would have walked away from cross and never looked back. But He didn’t – He fought for us. Every last one of us. And He is still fighting for us.

So my verse tonight is Romans 15:13: 13May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

My sister had a scare the other night: she hit a deer while she was driving 75 mph down I-55 south of Bloomington. Eeeek! The car is smashed up and the deer… well… he/she did not make it. He/she was catapulted into the air a good 20 feet before exploding and raining deer parts all over I-55 for about 30-40 feet.

Somehow, my sister maintained control of the car, pulled over and lived to tell about it. How the deer didn’t go through the windshield of her car, can only be because of the grace of God.

Whew – that was close. Thank you, God!!

here’s to Tongboy

This is an anniversary shout out for a long forgotten anniversary. It was one of those blustery winter days back in the 90s. Before the dot.com bubble burst. Before the Y2K Scare. Before Bush was elected. Yes, I refer to the joyfully oblvious late 90s. Signing bonuses for journalism majors. Talk about years of excess.

Before the end of Seinfeld, the War and the Emergence of the Axis of Evil – there was The Break Up (TBU).

Alas, it was high school companionship that was not meant to last. ::Sigh:: So, this one is for you Craig.

Thank you, Craiger, for being my obliging date to all the major dances. And for riding with Tony and Lauren and Brian and Kelly in the scary limo on the way home from prom. And for taking the girls out to lunch because we didn’t have a car. Oh, and for the hood ornament from the 1982 Plymouth Reliant. And for being TongBoy, the other half of the ambiguously gay duo with my dad, Wells LeMont. And for still liking my family, even when my sister humped you-On the bed-With your clothes on – and it was still uncomfortable. Thank you also for STP and AC/DC and Aerosmith. It helps round out my musical interests and makes up for my tendency to listen to country music. “She thinks my tractor’s sexy….”

Even though you had to endure dating me, you still managed to be my friend afterward. And for being happy for me when Frank and I started dating, even though some people weren’t as happy. Ahem. And then you and Jamie were awesome helping us with our wedding, with the most important part being that you were both EXCITED for us – you don’t know how much that meant to us!! And even now, you guys are soooo supportive of the house that we are building – we love telling you guys what is going on in our life and we love hearing what you are up to!

So, what began as TBU turned out to be TBOAGF (The Beginning of a Great Friendship). Happy 8 year anniversary to all of us! I think this will be a good story to tell all of our kids. When we are ready. And maybe a little drunk.

Cheers!

colors!

Thanks to lots of help from my fabulous Aunt Jill, Frank and I picked out all the colors for our new home! We are very excited about it (well, I am. Frank is happy that I am happy.) and if you click here, you can see the colors we picked. On this list, we selected “Super White” for the trim and doors. We selected “Putnam Ivory” for the entry way, kitchen, great room and laundry room. We selected “Tyler Taupe” for the powder room and Maple Leaf Red for the dining room (not listed). Upstairs, we are going to use “Chestertown Buff” in our bedroom and the Mother-In-Law room. The bathrooms will be “Waterbury Cream” and the office will be “Nantucket Gray.” The colors online don’t look like the actual colors, but it should give a pretty good idea.

This is such a small thing, but it really made my day. I think the house is going to feel so warm and homey when it’s all painted! 😀
